Batu Caves Hindu Temple Kuala Lumpur

Travel Date:2024 August 09

The Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur is a major Hindu temple and pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war. Located within a limestone hill, the site features a series of caves and cave temples, with the main cave, Cathedral Cave, housing the primary shrine.

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a towering 42.7-metre statue of Lord Murugan, one of the largest statues of the deity in the world. To reach the temple, devotees and visitors must climb 272 colourful steps that lead up to the cave's entrance.

Batu Caves is especially significant during the annual Thaipusam festival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who come to honour Lord Murugan. The temple's natural setting, combined with its religious importance, makes it one of Kuala Lumpur's most popular attractions for both spiritual seekers and tourists.
